Intelligent Guns, Stupid Bullets

I was waiting for my cell phone charge some songs for my field trip tomorrow and just remember that I want to write about this: technology. But not about the advance of tech, about how sometimes techs are stupid for the sake of someone very evil or very stupid.

My mobile is one classic example: it’s a good model of Au, one of the biggest phone companies in Japan, very convenient with a good camera, Micro SD port and music player. That’s the problem: the music player. Instead of a practical and simple solution like copy your music files to your Micro SD, put in your mobile and have fun… noooo. You have to install the problematic program of Au in order to listen your songs. And more, the audio format should be in WAV, WMA or another one that I don’t know, in order to be converted to the phone format. AND, the program runs only in Japanese operational systems, what takes me to my laboratory to put some fun in my little mobile. Well, Japan has a impressive number of resident foreigners and English is a so used language here, why they at least make something aiming this people? Sometimes Japan is very much like “Japan is for Japanese people”…

But not only here. Other victim (or victim maker) is the software. Yeah, any PC software, especially the most important ones like AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Corel Draw and others have a series of limitations that has been solved along the time. But it is not strange that such smart programs have no smart programmers that think in ways to make life easier and software that last longer and consume less memory? Finally after years and years the programmers are aiming to less memory consuming programs and more efficient. It’s evolution, baby.

Anyway, this remembered me an old Mad Magazine with the first Matrix parody, when Agent Smith and the other Matrix agents were trying to shot Neo and he just made the classic scene of escape of all bullets. In the parody the agents were complaining things like “It’s no use to have intelligent weapons and stupid bullets!” Same for tech in these days. Cheers!
